right here, right now
I saw the decade in, when it seemed
the world could change at the blink of an eye
And if anything
then there's your sign of the times

I just finished reading this article, and ended up with tears in my eyes, just from reaction.   "The Machine is on."

The roaring tide of aeonal change is all around us, and we are aswim within it. So much of the time, it's the air we breathe and the ground we walk on- we don't notice it. But then something like this hits, and zang it all comes into sharp focus.

There's a concept called the Singularity- broadly defined, a future point beyond which we cannot accurately predict what will happen. I think, in some ways, we may be in the middle of it right now. Especially if we've already created the template for a global mind. Our noosphere exists in the Internet. What happens next? Outside of the immediate future, I'm not sure anyone knows.

It's an exhilarating and scary feeling- half like lying in bed in the predawn hours of Christmas morning, and half like opening the door behind which the monster lurks. Whichever way it falls, I keep hearing the song:

I was alive and I waited waited
I was alive and I waited for this
Right here, right now, there is no other place I want to be
Right here, right now, watching the world wake up from history

Now I recomend Accelerando (http://www.accelerando.org). The bits are free and fit on a floppy. It's an entertaining effort to predict the unpredictable. Now I will look at your article.

End of the world as we know it?

Many belive that the Singularity will occur on Dec 21 2012 which also happens to be the end of the Maya Long Count Calendar and coicidentaly the same day that the Time Wave theorized by Terrence McKenna comes to an end. It's also the winter solstice.

Re: End of the world as we know it?

I know where monsteralice and I are planning on being on that day:

It's the last event listed here. The main ritual is that night.

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake..."
