Timbuktu Libraries in Exile
Timbuktu, in Mali, was always a center of learning, of peace and scholarship. Over the centuries, a huge collection of books had accumulated there- books on religion, poetry, scholarship, law, astronomy, medicine; beautiful illuminated manuscripts, works of art and learning.

In 2012, these books were under threat from the fundamentalist rebels attempting to seize power. A group of brave folk- archivists, librarians, and couriers- took an incredible risk, managing to evacuate a huge number of these irreplaceable manuscripts and getting them to safety.

Now they need to preserve these rescued books, which are fragile and in danger from the increased humidity of their current location.

Please donate to their IndieGoGo campaign.

Just $30 will preserve a manuscript, but every little bit helps. Thanks.
