Friday update
Read "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" this week. Lots of fun, and very clever. I started "Into the Dark Lands" by Michelle Sagara West, but put it down after a few chapters... it just didn't grab me- the prose style was IMHO stilted and the plot didn't grab me enough to get over that. So I switched to "The Osiris Ritual" by George Mann- a ripping steampunk yarn, and a sequel to his "The Affinity Bridge". Mysterious disappearances, a rogue agent of the crown who is a revenant of the Frankenstein's monster sort, and what appears so far to be a cursed mummy... great fun!

Oh, and finished "Subterranean Cities" last week. Not a waste, but still... Now reading "The Nightless City - Geisha and Courtesan Life in Old Tokyo" by J.E. Becker... a fascinating subject, and a pretty good treatment, even though there's a lot of Victorian moralizing and the translations of poetry and songs simply suck.

Had another CT scan this week, related to an ongoing sinus problem and not what monsteralice likes to call my "fit" back in June. The radiology department at VHC Arlington is located in a twisty maze of passages, all alike.

We went and saw "Cowboys and Aliens" on Wednesday. Fun, fun, fun! It's gotten lukewarm reviews, but we really enjoyed it.

Heard a story about someone looking for Chinggis Khan's tomb on NPR last night. They're crowdsourcing the photo investigation, and I tried it out last night- it's actually kind of fun.

Up to the cabin again this weekend...

This rush along the nerves
Flows to fingers, and the words
Go forth. A subtle thrill,
Yet vital as pulsebeat;
May I lifelong have it,
May I lifelong honor it.
