There are some positions available at Close Up, where I work:

Hotel Meals and Meetings Coordinator

A successful candidate will possess:
• Attention to detail
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines
• Basic knowledge of hotel meeting space and catering.
• Ability to send facility requirements and purchase orders to hotels.
• Able to read and proof Banquet Event Orders.
• Able to process hotel bills.
• Collegial working style/ team player attitude
• Computer experience (MS Office Suite) as well as the adaptability to learn other database systems
• Demonstrated record of professionalism and strong customer/vendor relations skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Reasoning and problem solving skills to develop and implement alternative plans
A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the field is preferred. Hotel experience is a plus. Candidate must be available on-call evenings and weekends to assist with any issues that may develop.

Curriculum Specialist

Job Responsibilities
• Outreach to new speakers for student and teacher program and to new institutions for onsites and seminars
• Booking of speakers for all programs as well as onsites
• Managing partnerships with organizations that work with/speak to our students and/or teachers
• Program Instructor/Teacher Program Specialist/Program Leader duties as necessary and depending on experience and training
• On call during program season
• Must be comfortable with MS office suite
• Program Experience a plus
• Must be available to work some Sunday evenings and other evenings during program year
• Start Date of August 1st to begin training

Teacher Program Specialist

o Research, develop and conduct curricula plans for Teacher and Educator Programs using historical monuments and memorials in and around Washington, DC.
o Provide customer service to Teacher and Student participants and visitors.
o Research, develop, conduct and evaluate academic experiential components (workshops, large groups, seminars, study visits and other activities) for Teacher Programs as well as Student Programs.
o Serve as liaison between teachers and Student Program Leaders.
o Coordinate logistical planning arrangements with the Program staff and Close Up Program Services, Government Relations and Television/Video departments.
o Research, develop, conduct and evaluate curricula and content for Teach American History Programs.
o Complete necessary administrative duties and engage in office support.
o Assist with the development and long range planning and programming of Teacher and Educator Programs and Student Programs.
o Assist with in-house staff civic education training of Close Up staff for student programs.
o Continue developing professional expertise in the area of civic and adult education.
o Collaborate with members of the Curriculum Department on department initiatives
o Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in social science, education or related areas. At least one year teaching experience and/or graduate degree, graduate work required; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Close Up program experience is desireable.
o Awareness of current trends in politics and education. Working knowledge of American and world history, inner workings of Capitol Hill and strong familiarity with the layout of Washington, DC a plus.
o Adult training, teaching and/or professional development training backgrounds appreciated.
o Ability to write articles, academic content and lesson plans using original and innovative technique and style.
o Ability to lead and make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial and complex topics to participants in the form of workshops, discussion groups, and other public presentations.
o Must have excellent organizational, communication and writing skills, good phone manner and be able to work under pressure and time constraints.
o Specialist needs to have excellent customer service skills in order to respond effectively to inquiries and complaints.
o Knowledge of E-mail, Internet and MS Office applications required.
o Specialist need to be in good physical shape, feel comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs, walking backwards, standing and talking on buses, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
o Specialists work non-traditional hours and during peak program seasons have early start times.
