So, this past weekend I was at the last Xanodria LARP event for this year. It was a good game, all told- more action/combat oriented than usual, with a horror element... not something that I'd want all the time, but a nice bit of spice. I had plenty to do (boy did I ever- there was a spell that only my priest and one other could cast that was vital to us not getting hosed entirely... I lost track of how many times I cast it. Not a cheap spell, either...) and it wasn't just a meatgrinder- there was reason behind the madness. I had fun.

But then came Sunday morning, and my first combat of the day. To make a long story short, I tripped over a fallen foe and ended up smacking my noggin on the tarmac. Luckily, I hit arse then shoulders then head... I saw stars but didn't black out, no neck pain, just a bit woozy. Oh, and there was a nice y-shaped laceration on the back of my head.

Luckily, the game has a top-notch safety staff, with a lot of well-trained people and a huge medical kit. Ed, the guy who took lead, is an EMT and a surgical nurse, and took care of things quickly and competently. He didn't see any real reason for me to go to the ER; he closed the wound up with three surgical staples (did I mention the huge medical kit?), cleaned me up and put some antibiotic goop on the cut, and that was it. The dizziness faded pretty quickly, and (though I was non-combatant), I managed to come back into game for a little bit.

ravenrose was wonderful- she helped Ed, sat with me, and drove the Bat most of the way home. Many many thanks to Ed, Diane, the rest of the Safety staff, and everyone who was concerned, sympathetic, and offered help.

Right now all of my neck muscles ache like hell, I have a bruised butt, but my head itself doesn't feel that bad. I went to the doctor yesterday and had it checked out; he was impressed with the stapling job and basically gave me a thumbs up.

But, ow.

But now no one can claim you don't suffer for your art.

Also, you may want to come into the next XPI game wearing a football helmet as a "just in case". I'm sure ravenrose would be happy to help determine what sort of emblem should be on the side.

Making a football helmet with my PC's church's colors and symbol would be all too easy.

Ouch! Glad it wasn't anything more serious.

now YOU need bubblewrap...holy gods am I gonna need to order the jumbo sam's club size

Hey, I have had like 3 LARP-related injuries (that necessitated treatment) over a period of 20 some odd years. None of them required me to go to the ER. I am nowhere near in wolffirepa's league...

(Take care of yourself, young man!!)

I actually built a boffer roman helmet for Garko once upon a time...

Owie!! Good to hear that you are otherwise okay.

How was the tarmac? Did you dent it?

On the plus side... Blue Mountain has been appeased by your blood sacrifice...

Or perhaps it has been awakened to a hunger for

...no, that probably happened when we were running horror games up there...

Yeesh! I'm glad the doc said you're okay, but still -- yeesh!
