per amica silentia lunae

or, across the ferny brae with the evil voodoo celt

since it's apparently Poetry Month or something
Walking along the straight rail path
In this rain-dappled, cloud-cleansed
Ambient April morning light, I feel
I am following a shining strand of beads.
Most are a varied succession of green-
Jade, peridot, agate, malachite glow
Against the sullen retreating jasper
Of fall and winter's broken sleep.
But here and there, others sparkle-
A flowering tree flames amethyst,
Dogwood flickers moonstone and pearl,
Forsythia adds a gleam of gold.
I am tracing a treasure-line today,
Out from and back to home again,
Walking through wonder and choiring birds.
