[mostly of interest to DC-local] SMWSA Single Malt & Scotch Whisky Extravaganza
In the interest of posting something relevant to my current state of mind (i.e., gods do I need a drink right now), I want to let you all know about the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America's Single Malt & Scotch Whisky Extravaganza.

It's on October 23, at the JW Marriot Hotel in downtown DC. This will make the third or fourth time I've gone. I've always enjoyed it immensely. This time, monsteralice, deboranter, and RickP will be there, possibly other folks known to me and thee.

It's not cheap, but there will be over 70 rare and unique single malt and scotch whiskies to taste. Some of these are very hard to find. The Society will be offering some of their own to taste- they buy single barrels from various distilleries and bottle them privately- guaranteed one-of-a-kind and otherwise available only if you're a member.

There will also be a delicious dinner buffet, a prize drawing, and (for those who partake) free high-quality cigars (monsteralice and I use them as offerings to the lwa, of course).

Unfortunately, I can't buy any more member-discounted tickets, so you're on your own there... There are no tickets sold at the door. Scroll down on the page referenced above for ordering info.

Hope you can make it!

"Malt does more than Milton can
To justify God's ways to man."

::hugs:: right back at you...

the scotch will pass too but that's not really something i want to talk about

Or to quote Carlin: "NEVER MIND!"

Hope it gets better for you both soon.

Housman says it best.

lucasthegray and baron_saturday and I are going to the one local to us! YAY.

DO you know any other local members who might still be able to buy more member-discounted tix?

no one who is likely to have any left...

I find it highly ironic that it is sponsored by Fiji Water. :)

there's a lot of mystique about adding just the right amount of water before tasting. imho, it helps with the cask-strength stuff, but is generally unnecessary with regular whisky.
