GLBT Christianity meets Atheism...
Here is a great interview with Rev. Candace Chellew-Hodge, founder of Whosoever, an “online magazine for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Christians.”

I knew that atheists could be fundamentalist, and were prone to "baby with the bathwater" judgments on religion, but I didn't know that they had a tendency towards Biblical literalism, too... that's both amusing and sad. The idea that religion can (and should) change really seems to bother some commenters...

Good to know. The article gave me some helpful talking points to counter the old biblical arguments.

Make sure you read the commentary, especially hers... very interesting stuff.

I keep having the same arguments with the same people about how
"homosexuality is no more an abomination because of one restriction
it has than heterosexuality is an abomination because of the dozens
of restrictions it has." I'm getting tired of the argument - but I'm
not giving it up any time soon.

I gewnerally ascribe to the interpretation that the word "abomination" means simply "not kosher", and that the fundament of Christianity was that Christ specifically came to make a *new* covenant whereby anyone, even if they weren't born into the jewish faith and tradition, could come to God.

My dad is a former catholic, now atheist, and when he talks about the bible literally, it's mostly with a spirit of vengence for all the times christian fundamentalists have insisted that the bible must be taken literally...his favorite is the CoJCoLDS assertion that Jesus spoke of "other sheep that would hear his voice" after he was gone (which is used as a basis for mormonism's revelations). He likes to pretend to get incensed by humans claiming to have heard Jesus when, clearly, he was intending to talk to SHEEP. :) My dad is an awesome screw-head.

Yeah, the idea of anyone using the KJV as a basis for literal interpretation of the Bible really amuses me.

And your Dad indeed seems like an awesome screwhead.
