[dc local] Viva Midsummer!
dream
evcelt
For everyone in the DC area, I highly recommend the Rude Mechanicals' production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was wonderful!

The director, random221b decided to set it in Las Vegas, a conceit that really worked with the material. The acting was great, with a lot of comic energy, the pacing was brisk, and there was a pleasantly risqué edge to things (definitely not a kid-friendly production!) that seamlessly merged the cheerful decadence of the Strip and the bacchanalian side of Faerie. There were a number of folks from my flist in the production (divalion, riolobo, and velvet_c), all of whom turned in sterling performances. The guy playing Nick Bottom (as an Elvis impersonator!) and the lass playing Puck were also notable.

They used songs, stand-up, and other nightclub acts (all performed by the actors) to both cover segues and scene changes and comment wittily on the action. The singing was all quite good, overcoming the usual acoustic problems of a black box venue.

See it!
